Earlier this year, Sabrina Krafchuk, Assistant Administrator at Vernon Homes,
successfully completed her Green House training in New Orleans, LA. The five-day
course equips future trainers to teach Green House Core Education at organizations in
development, as well as those already operating Green House homes.
Sabrina learned teaching strategies and practiced teaching in a supportive environment.
She also visited Green House homes to interact with elders and team members.
“The training was great,” Sabrina reported. “The educators were knowledgeable and
passionate about the material, making it very engaging. I thought I knew a lot about the
Green House model, but I came away with so much more knowledge.”
The Educator Course trains leaders in person-directed care principles specific to Green
House homes, enabling them to instruct future care staff. This train-the-trainer approach
aims to guide new Green House organizations towards sustainable culture change. The
model is more than just architecture and design; it’s about creating the foundation of
real home, meaningful life, and empowered staff at Vernon Homes.

Sabrina is excited about educating her peers, while helping to pour a new cultural
foundation at Vernon Homes. “Most people are new to the Green House model, with no
concept of what it’s all about. I’m looking forward to sharing the new mindset. It’s
exciting.”
The Green House model aims to create homes that empower both caregivers and
residents. Although building small homes with private rooms is straightforward, fostering
an empowering environment is ongoing. The Educator course helps care staff shift from
task-focused efficiency to a model that prioritizes resident choices, autonomy, and
personal goals.
Dependent upon the ground-breaking at Vernon Homes, Sabrina is hoping to roll out the
training program soon. “I’m excited to be the point person who will be training our
community in Green House’s person-directed care mindset.”
